Magdalena Czarnecki

'This Is A Bird' is a fabulous concept by designer Magdalena Czarnecki. She transforms a ubiquitous paper bag with simple step-by-step instructions on how to fold the bag into an origami bird. In other words, the package becomes the product! Now, you didn't see that coming, did you?

The Back Story
Point and shoot art that turns heads.

THE INSPIRATION
A trip to the museum sometimes means gawking at the backs of strangers heads to see the Warhols on the wall. That got us thinking about the people we see every day Ð and who we photograph in the same old face-forward ways. So we sweet-talked a few friends into a face-off with some artsy paper, snapped away with the camera, and printed the pics on poster-size paper. The resulting art puts a fresh perspective on our inner circle, as well as uninspired walls. There’s even a place for Fido’s flip side.

suffer for fashion

I really like this tumblr site: suffer for fashion
Sure, taking photos of street fashion is not a new idea. Sartorialist, face hunter, whowhatwear, etc. have done it to death. But what I like about this site is her descriptions. The stories written about the people in the photographs are what really fleshes them out, make them seem like real people. My imagination is stirred by these stories.
Here's what's written about this photo:
"robert is a poet. he was sitting in washington square park
and typing poems, with his “salinger esque” (according to one of the strangers
who stopped by) typewriter
and paper and fragmented poems
. actually, perhaps not so much tortured
artist as an as of yesterday official pratt grad. he doesn’t write poems in the
park that often, but as he’s going off to san francisco soon, it seemed like a
good occasion."

to read

Besides film, reading is another pursuit of pleasure that I wish I had more time for.
I'm currently re-reading some of my favourite (read: old) books. Speaking of which, I know a great local alternative to pick up some very nice second-hand titles at slashed prices - it's a well-kept secret !
So, what are some of your favorite books and why?

This is a birthday wish to a special friend. The bond we share has lasted through bad haircuts, breakups, travelling, and working together. You are precious and loved.

Random photogroup: pastoral

I have yet to learn how to stitch together a photo collage using photoshop. A group of similar themed photos would look particularly fetching when grouped together inspiration-board style.
For some reason, these 3 photos look to me like they belong together. In a laidback, country-living, eco chic sort of way.

vee speers

http://www.veespeers.com/

"The Birthday Party is a collection of children’s portraits. Speers has stripped away the stereotypes of childhood in a far cry from the usual idealisation of the ‘happiest days of our lives’. She reveals the cruelty, vulnerability and duplicity of children. She captures children happy to play with imperfection and embrace the grotesque; children with a sense of danger and disregard for the social expectations of a birthday party smile.

The resulting visuals are unsettling, with a transparency that is neither black and white nor colour, and the humanity neither that of an adult nor of a child."
