kayak love

I love kayaking.
The feeling of your biceps propelling the oars and slicing through the water is amazing.
I actually took a class, we had to learn how to jump out of the kayak mid lake, and then get back on.
Some of my fondest memories with Mr. J were in kayaks. I would love to go on a kayaking trip somewhere.

Picasso drawing with light

In 1949, LIFE photographer Gjon Mili visited Picasso in Vallauris, France. He showed Pablo some photographs of ice skaters with tiny lights affixed to their skates jumping in the dark. Picasso was immediately inspired, these photos were the result. You can see more of these in this LIFE gallery.

car jam

In 2005, artist Maider López put the call out for willing participants to create an intentional traffic jam in the Aralar Mountains. In response, more than 400 folks drove up to the countryside in 160 vehicles to get stuck. The result: an unexpected invasion to illustrate the automobile’s impact on the landscape.
Note: you wouldnt need to call for participants in Malaysia, we are all unwilling participants in this exercise on a daily basis!

Gimme Veg!

One of the banes of living as a single working person is having to eat out a lot. I find myself lacking nutrition and not eating as healthily as I would like to.

At the end of a 10-hour day, I hardly can muster the motivation to go through the process of cooking a meal for myself. Enter instant noodles, cereal, and junk food.

If I had my way, I would love to plant and cook more vegetables. Especially carrots, tomatoes, broccoli, in fact just about any vegetable would be welcome.

What are your favorite veggies?

Arioso Swing

Who doesn't love swings? When I was little, I used to swing as high up as I dared and then launch out of the swing like a projectile, fearless in flight. The object of the game, of course, was to land on my feet in a flourish.
Now all my older and much more subdued self wants is a comfortable perch from which gentle rocking can lull me to a restive state.
The Arioso Swing by designer Rossukon Horansgchai will be showcased at the upcoming Maison et Objet exhibition this September.
If you ask me, the design looks more like a cross between a pool chair and a 4 poster bed - but it also seems very comforable. More info here.

cushy continents pillow set

Cushy Continents pillow set from Uncommon Goods.

Their product detail describes them best, "Rest your head close to home on the US pillow or drift off to far away lands with the Asia and Africa versions. Either way, you can rest assured that these bright and cheery pillows help the greater good by providing fair wages and development opportunities for artisans in South West India. Pillow cases are made of cotton and decoration is applied using Batik, a traditional Indian art to create patterns on fabric."

I'm not sure about batik being a traditional Indian art... but these pillows are some kind of wonderful :)
